Timex T5G971 Unisex Sports Personal Heart Rate Monitor Watch Reviews
This model (Timex 5G971) is the No. 1 top-rated HRM in Consumer Reports, rated "excellent" for accuracy and for ease of use, and I find that to be completely true. It also has user-replaceable batteries, which is a real "plus". I would rate it 5-stars except for the chest strap, which is a bit difficult to unhook for putting on or taking off, and I can see where it could eventually break from what one has to do to unhook it. But, until something breaks, it's all good.br /br /I did not want one of the dumb, more expensive HRM's with all kinds of bells and whistles that almost no one uses, just give me my pulse rate accurately, thanks. This one does that, and does display time and date, which I don't care about but nice enough.br /br /I've had Polar HRM's, which are accurate, but their wrist bands have always been inexplicably stiff and tough to use, no clue why they do that. Also, Polars need to be sent back to Polar when the batteries eventually die (wrist unit and chest strap unit), and die they will, and this is a real pain. Since most other manufacturers seem to manage just fine with user-relaceable batteries while still being accurate, reliable, and water-resistant, I see no credible reason for Polar to continue the madness and I for one will not buy any more of theirs. I vote with my wallet.br /br /I've also had one Cardiosport HRM, which was excellent, but they are tough to find and I can't devote my life to searching. No Cardiosport models appeared on the Consumer Reports list, probably because they can't find them either.br /br /So, I was shopping for any of the top three units listed in Consumer Reports, and happily found this Timex unit, the Consumer Reports top-rated unit, for a good price and free shipping, a real "no brainer".br /br /I've checked it against the last gasps of my last Polar (battery almost dead) and the hands-on unit built into my exercise bike, and "manually" timed my pulse, and the Timex is accurate. The instructions are easy and logical, the unit is easy to use. The wrist band is comfy and easy to take on and off. The chest strap is fine but as noted above, it either takes a magic trick that I haven't found yet or pushing on the "buckle" connection a bit harder than I'd like to unhook to put on and take off.br /br /Recommended.
